Justified Fear: A Fair Response to Unfair Treatment

Justified Fear is a classically typeset book featuring excerpts from James Baldwin’s If Beale Street Could Talk, poems from Langston Hughes, and experimental typography. The excerpts from Beale Street were all about the unfairness and fear that African Americans face in America. I experimented with charcoal rubbings, crumpled paper, charcoal dust splatters, and distorted type.
